View Full Version : Where is the WCS in Europe?

Until recently I didn't think there was any. I used to dance WCS a lot when I lived in the US but since I moved to Europe five years ago I've had to turn to other things like tango, lindy hop, and not dancing. The first two are much better than the last, in fact they are great, but I do miss dancing west coast! I see events listed in the UK and in Paris -- are there actually regular WCS social dancing scenes there? And in other cities?
(On an unrelated note I don't suppose there is anyone else here from Sydney who is amused by the name of this website?)
There is very much a social WCS scene in the UK and in France (although the France scene is a bit younger and less experienced - but growing!).
US pros (J&T, Parker and Jess, Robert and Deborah, Ben and Melina, Kyle and Sarah, the Roystons, and now even Arjay and Melissa, John Lindo, Mario, Mary-Ann etc!) travel regularly to various events.
All events are listed on the following (non-commercial) websites:
UK: http://www.uk-wcs.co.uk/
France: http://wcsinfo.org
If you need a WCS fix, you should consider one of the big events such as the UK convention at Weston Super Mare in april or Sea Sun and Swing in France in july. (All details on the websites above!) :D

Thanks for the links! I am seriously tempted by the UK convention but not sure whether I can manage it ... looking at flights to Bristol just in case though. But I will definitely keep an eye on the sites you mentioned and I'm sure I'll make it to an event sooner or later.

Is there any sort of scene in Rome? I ask because I will be there for a week at the end of June and it'd be nice to get some WCS in while I'm there:) Heck, I'll even consider teaching some WCS there that week (although it would cut into my sightseeing - it's my first time there) if the scene there is really young and I can contribute any knowledge I have. Not sure how I would ever go about doing that though...

If I remember well Jordan and Tatiana went to Rome a couple of years ago, although I am not entirely sure if it was for teaching or site seeing... Anyway, I guess they might know if there's anything. I can't say that I have heard about WCS in Italy.
