A Special Three-Part Series!
MUSICALITY FOR WEST COAST SWING
with Eric Jacobson
Part I: Shaping and Styling The Dance
Sunday, June 29th
1:00-4:00 pm
Break out of cookie-cutter patterns and start dancing to what you hear! Since no two songs are the same, no two dances should be the same either. By exploring stylistic variations on the basics, you will learn how to shape the dance to music that is either soft and smooth or hard and sharp. Discover how to use syncopations and body movement to dramatically change the look and feel of your dancing!
Intermediate/Advanced level.
Part II: Phrasing and Counting
Sunday, July 13th
1:00-4:00 pm
A critical component to musical interpretation is phrasing – structuring movement and patterns to the structure of the song we hear. In this workshop you will learn about major and minor phrases and both standard and blues song form. You will also learn how to count with the music and use variations and pattern extension to fit moves to the music. Take your dancing to a new level by putting movement to what you hear!
Intermediate/Advanced level.
Part III: Accents, Hits and Breaks
Saturday, July 26th
1:00-4:00 pm
Ever seen a dance where the partners stop together with a break in the song? Have you felt an accent coming but didn’t know what to do? This workshop is designed to help you find the accents, hits and breaks in a song and use both your body movement and the partnership to express them. We will explore how to incorporate accents into basic patterns and how to use those patterns to hit breaks in the music. Come add a whole new layer of style to your dancing!
Intermediate/Advanced level.
Standard Pricing: $30 per person
By Friday before each class, $25.
All workshops can be taken independently of one another
All workshops take place at
