Does anyone want to share their dance vids with the class? I know of at least 2 folks who said they would post their videos. Well, this thread is the place. :D

You can post your Then/Now dance videos to show us how you were when you first started and how you’ve progressed.

Or if you have any dance videos you want to share just for giggles…or kudos. Go for it.

How do you post a video? Is there a tutorial somewhere?

Hmm, you could probably post a link to your video if it's on Youtube. That's what I was thinking. I'm not sure if there's another way.

I'm probably the least technical person on the planet. LOL!

Copy the embed code from youtube and post it here?
I don't have flash enabled when browsing with firefox, so I can't test.

Ok, so using the embed codes from youtube didn't quite work for me. So here are the links instead.

So i call this Evolution of a Routine. This first video of me and Joel in March 2007, first time on the floor.

The second video is from Sept 2007 at Dallas DANCE. What a difference 6 months can make, eh? Tongue Out

Very nice routine. I thought even the first video was great, but it was definitely cleaned up at Dallas.

Makes me want to do a routine!

Thanks! I love doing routines. They are so much work, but really worth it.

I'll post some of mine, too. I'm just not sure if I want to show the vid of when I first competed...LOL!

These are good, whipkitten...both of them! I can totally see how much more confident you are in the second video, though.

I like this thread idea Cal. The vids are great. I love the Wade in the water routine. I love that version of the song :) and whipkitten I can definitely see the difference in the second vid. The first one is great but you can tell you are more solid in the second.

I would love to do a routine. Maybe one day......

I am trying to decide if I'm brave enough to post. Since I'm still new they go from Hillariously bad to not so bad LOL!!!! But that's looking at it through my highly critical eyes and I have a hard time watching myself. I still have a lot to learn so I don't know how much of an arc I've got just yet LOL!

hahahaha Oh man I want to see!! You'll make me feel more secure LOL! I cringe ever time I look at a vid of one of my first comps hahahaha! I kept rubbing my hair cause someone told me that was styling so I thought Oh you want Styling I'LL GIVE YOU STYLING. I think I rubbed my hair after every whip. I thought the "styling" would distract the judges from my lack of skill. hahahahaha It didn't!

Ok I'm posting mine  Even though it makes me terribly nervous LOL! I don't really enjoy watching myself. LOL!!!

So this is J&J Newcomer at summer hummer. It was my 3rd comp I think but the first I don't count cause it was a salsa comp at a WCS event and I had a complete panick attack LOL!

SH J&J Newcomer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEI1pNnx17s) I'm the one on the left in the white shirt.

The second one is only about a month later but I had started social dancing more and taking a few privates with Brad Setzer so we did a Pro Am. I think finally getting the nerve to go out social dancing helped a lot to calm my nerves.

I would love to do a routine, but I am kind of unsure where to start. I could fumble through making one on my own I guess. What is the best way to go about it?

For me, it all starts with the song choice. After all, this is going to be something that you will be listening to hundreds of times, if not a thousand times! Find something that moves you, that makes you feel something.

Then as for choreography, you can do it yourself or you can find someone to do it for you. I've never attempted to do one completely on my own before, so for that I would have no idea where to start. But if you decide to go with a choreographer, think about the routines that you've seen that you really like. A style that you would like to try, or the overall feel of a routine. All choreographers have their way of doing it and it's all different. Ask around.

My preference is to have a choreographer give me a skeleton framework of a routine. I think of it sort of like getting a hamburger and then I get to decide on all the condiments or "embellishments". There might besome things that I absolutely want, like a certain drop or pattern that i want incorporated.

The best choreographer, IMO, is someone who already knows your style and your skill set, so that things can be adjusted accordingly.

oops. Didn't mean to write so much! But i hope it gives you a good start!
